Youth Group Donates to CAT
Thursday, December 20th, 2007After noticing that not all the kids at school didn’t have caps and mittens they felt an urge to help. The Bethel Lutheran youth group, grades 6-12, collected winter hats, scarfs, mittens, and gloves for both children and adults and presented them to the Faith Community Action Team (CAT) on December 12, 2007. The students felt that this was just one way to help the less fortunate in our community. Great Job Guys!!!
Angel Tree Available in Faith
Thursday, December 20th, 2007A group of people saw a need for some of the local children. To answer the call of helping others, a group of citizens have set up an angel tree during this holiday season. Any person can take an angel from the tree which has an age and sex of a child. They then purchase a gift and bring the unwrapped package to the City Office or Chamber. At this time, most of the gifts have already been wrapped and delivered. The great thing about this project is that the community members can give to the less-fortunate without making anyone uncomfortable about accepting help. That is one of the reasons that this community is awesome to live in!
Christmas Concert a Big Hit!
Monday, December 17th, 2007On December 17th, 2007 the community of Faith gathered at the school gym for a delightful evening of entertainment. From the preschool to the high school, the music students from Faith School sang, danced, and played their instruments to familiar and enjoyable Christmas songs. Everything from “Silent Night” to “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer” was appealing to all ages. Great job to Mrs. Wicks and the music students!

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007Sue is coming!
Monday, December 3rd, 2007During the Spring & Summer of 2008, May 10 - September 1, citizens of Faith and visitors to the prairie oasis, will have the rare opportunity to become time travelers to over 65 million years ago to the late Cretaceous Period. They will experience a once in a life spectacle, “A Tyrannosaurus Rex Named Sue Traveling Exhibit”. This nationally traveling exhibit comes courtesy of the world famous Field Museum in Chicago, Illinois, Mc Donald’s (Golden Arch’s), and the South Dakota Office of Tourism (Governor’s Million Dollar Challenge)-Great Faces, Great Places.Sue is the largest, most complete and best preserved Tyrannosaurus Rex ever unearthed. You will not want to miss this unique opportunity to see this spectacular, the full size cast of this dinosaur’s 42-foot-long, 13- foot-high skeleton and learn more about it’s intriguing past. To help answer some of the scientific questions about the life and times of Sue, 10 interactive educational pods will accompany Sue to Faith. This informative exhibition explores the paleontology that helped scientists reconstruct Sue’s life and legacy. Sue will be on display in the City of Faith Community Center. To compliment the Sue traveling exhibit, a schedule of events have been planned inside the Community Center and in the community of Faith. Inside the Community Center along with Sue will be the Dino stories Exhibit where young people can learn about Tyrannosaurus Rex and other interesting dinosaurs. Tour opportunities of nearby dig sites are being planned in collaboration with property owners and the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, Indiana. A reception will be held for fossil hunters, sponsors of the traveling exhibit and members of the Faith Line Historical Center. You will want to be a part of this event. A community wide birthday celebration will be held on August 12, 2008, commemorating the day Sue was found near Faith by fossil hunter Sue Hendrickson. Grab your sleeping bag, pillow, pajamas, and flashlight because you will be able to slumber with Sue in an all night sleep over in the Community Center. If you would like to attend a panel discussion from the fossil hunters and scientists who have studied Sue there will be an educational seminar on their discoveries. On an artistic note, a variety of all kinds of music, art & poetry is being planned to honor Sue. If you are in a shopping mood there will be food and artist vendors adjacent to the Community Center. You will also want to stop by the Faith Line Historical Center & the Faith Chamber of Commerce to buy your official Sue memorabilia and tickets to see Sue. Parade of Lights a Success!!
Monday, December 3rd, 2007On December 3rd, despite the bitter cold temperatures, the citizen’s of Faith gathered together to celebrate the holiday season. At 5 pm, the street lights were extinguished and the festivities began. With eleven entries, the parade was very colorful and full of lights. I heard several positive comments on how glad that the holiday parade has returned to Faith. The idea to bring the parade back to Faith was the Faith Ambulance committee. The most talked about entry would have had to be the City of Faith’s “Sue” entry. Very nice! After the parade, the Horizon’s committee held a social at the Legion Hall. Snacks, cookies, bars, and lots of other treats along with apple cider and hot chocolate warmed approximately 88 people including a special appearance by Santa. Most of the treats were provided by Faith businesses.
Paul Peterson, a Horizon’s member gave the audience an overview of the new strategic plan that the Horizon’s committee developed. Nancy Reimer gave a short presentation about the community blog and invited the community to send items to post, comment on the current posts, and basically use the blog as a unified community bulletin board.
The prizes for the floats and door prizes were also presented at this time by Deb Brown and Shawn Peterson. The presentation concluded with an invitation to the audience to volunteer to help on the current projects that the Horizon’s team is working on. In other words, the social was a huge success!!!
Did you know?
Monday, December 3rd, 2007There was an account set up under Horizon’s II/ CAT team from the first phase of Horizon’s that was used to help families who qualified, to help pay bills within the City of Faith. For example clinic and/or medical bills, Vila’s, auto repairs, utilities, ambulance, and rent. However, the fund is restricted to local businesses. The account was used quite a bit in the last year, and we hope to continue this service in the future.
